Surgical Technologist – Operating Room (Days)

Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist provides technical support to the surgical team by preparing and maintaining a sterile environment for operative procedures. The Surgical Technologist assists surgeons, registered nurses, and anesthesia providers by preparing instruments and supplies, anticipating procedural needs, and ensuring that equipment and sterile fields are properly maintained. This role requires strong knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical instrumentation, and patient safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, including instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.
• Establish and maintain a sterile field throughout operative procedures.
• Scrub and assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures.
• Perform counts of instruments, sharps, and sponges according to policy.
• Prepare, inspect, and operate surgical equipment and instrumentation safely.
• Assist with patient positioning and preparation in collaboration with the perioperative team.
• Maintain proper handling and care of surgical specimens.
• Participate in room turnover and preparation for subsequent procedures.
• Maintain compliance with infection prevention, sterilization, and patient safety standards.
• Document procedures and activities as required.
• Perform additional duties within scope as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred.
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required.
• Minimum 2 years of recent Operating Room experience as a Surgical Technologist required.
• Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile technique, and perioperative procedures required.
• California does not require state licensure or certification for Surgical Technologists.
